RE: new spare when replacing your 6 tires?
I my case the spare was in the same condition as the other tires.....worn, checking, and 12 years old.
I bought 7.
I keep my spare at the pressure for my front wheels which is highest. I check its pressure when I check the others as it's hanging on the rear of the RV and easy to get to.

Even if you had a jack of the capacity you need you'd be so high in the air to get a wheel off the groung it would be dangerous. Better to put a jack under the axle/suspension. You don't have to lift so far if you are directly lifting the suspension without it sagging.

Just as an addition to this topic, I try to review what I am carrying with me. If it is not emergency gear, and if I haven't been using it I vote it off the RV. Using that principle (and being more clever at packing) I am actually carrying more stuff now and have more extra space for things that are specific to a particular trip.
Next trip tomorrow will include an extra tool box specific to bikes, 4 bikes and 6 extra wheels!! Yeah, there will be bike wheels piled up inside.

RE: Batterty/Heater Question
You can run a small genny (insert Honda here) to keep your batteries up. It is not uncommon for folks to use one even if they have an on board genny. Start it up before going to bed and let it run out of gas. Much quieter then the on board unit.

My brother's family are hard core ski bums and live in a 29G on weekends during ski season at Alpental. I've stayed it in it up there and it's just fine. Even their mighty BF has frozen up when it gets realy cold (fresh water plumbing).
Actually there are a number of RVs up there at the pass without a lot of insulation and winter stuff and they do just fine until it gets really cold (single digits). The BF just works better than most.
Having said that I wouldn't hesitate taking mine up there with my insulated window covers and insulated cab curtain (we made) and I only run a single house battery......just be careful. I would be pushing the limit of my capability.

Anyone ever here of a wild fire started because of a dirtbike or atv throwing a spark? Just asking!
Yes, a non spark arrestor exhaust can start a fire.....as can a vehicle with a hot cat if you park on dry stuff.
Railroad rolling stock can do it too from the brakes. That's why they kill everything on the rail lines. Trailer safety chains will do it too dragging on the road.

Bicycle saddles (yeah, that's what they are really called) are as personal a thing as the part of your body they are in contact with. There are as many saddle shapes as shapes of the human back side.
The late great Sheldon Brown has a nice little blurb on saddles here:

On my full suspension mountain bike I have a narrow WTB Rocket V Rocket V which looks like the one in the pic in the previous post.
On my 29er (that's 29 inch wheels) hard tail mountain bike I have an old school Brooks B-17 pre aged saddle B-17 which is very low tech but I can ride all day on it.
As you can see I like a different saddle on different bikes. One for butt down riding (long distance) and a smaller saddle for riding that requires me to have maximum maneuverability. I am good to about 20 miles on the narrow saddle after which I am wishing for the good old heavy Brooks.
Another thing you can do is get dedicated riding apparel. This doesn't mean you have to wear tight spandex. You can get padded baggy cycling shorts which is what I wear. Something like this:
Shorts Don't go riding in your Levis or you'll just get mad at the world. Also, I wear undies that are NOT cotton when I ride. There is nothing more unpleasant than the feal of sweaty cotton undies being shoved up your backside on a warm day.

If I were to do a conversion like that I'd likely get a piece of plywood, put a cleat on the aft side to hold thing that slide (in the event one forgets to tie them down).
I would put D rings or something like them on the plywood to hook tie downs to. I'd use some screws to hold the plywood base in position. A curtain would hide all the stuff I have up there. I'd use plastc totes/bins up there for assored stuff and use tie downs to hold it all in place.

Go to Crutchfield's web site. They have lots of stuff and heve a very helpful tech department that will respond to e-mail. Whe I replaced the stereo in my RV I bought from them. I am a repeat costomer of theirs. They have always been helpful even after the sale.

Often when a driver reports that "the brakes failed", the actual cause turns out to be human error. In my fire service career I have been on at least two incidences of cars into buildings where the driver claimed to be applying the brakes as hard as they could. However, the burnout marks made by the tires indicated that they were standing on the throttle as hard as they could. By far the least reliable (yet the most important) safety system in any vehicle is the nut behind the wheel.
Yeah that happens a lot. Remember the Audi story on 60 minutes about them mysteriously accelerating? That was all debunked as people getting the throttle pedal rather than that brake.
Several years ago I was involved in a wreck. The impact from being hit bounced me in my seat to where I lost contact with the pedals momentarily. As I was spinning (slowly) I hedl my left foot hard on the clutch and right foot pumping the (apparently) failed brakes to whoa the car up. Turns out I had been moved to the left in the seat and my left foot was hard on the dead pedal (foot rest) trying to shove it through the floor (as if it was the clutch) and I was pumping the clutch with my right foot thinking it was the brake. Pretty amusing after the fact.

The up side is that urine is pretty clean stuff. The down side is the rest of what's in the tank ain't.
Rubber gloves and hand washing aftwerwards for me every time. You are dealing with sewage equipment after all. Even if your stuff is squeaky clean (which it ain't) how clean was the previous user of the dump hookup you're connecting to?

IMO, Ford tends to put inferior headlights on vehicles . I am lucky and one of my Fords (SVT Focus) has optional HIDs. They are sweet.
Your best bet is to adjust the headlights to make the low beams correct and add lighting in the form of driving lights. Rallylights.com is a straight up outfit and can offer good advice. Hella makes some lights that are not so big. http://www.rallylights.com/hella/Auxiliary_Lamps.asp Stick with the good brands. There's a lot of junk out there that is mostly for show.

The down side of surge brakes is backing up from my experience. They tend to apply themselves and need to be locked out to go uphill or against any resistance backwards.
Electrics with a controller like a prodigy are also adjustable to account for the load. Very nice setup.
I guess you know where I lean.

RE: Gas/oil leakage from around filler tube
It may be just expansion, as gasoline comes out of the tanks at about 54 degrees F, then when it warms up it expands. Next time just stop it at first shut off at pumps. Also, if you were parked on a slope, it would go up the filler neck. Some times those generator hoses leak, as they crack. Most are up over the tank, but lower than the filler neck.
Like what Trop said. I've had that happen to in vehicles. The gas comes out of the ground cool and expands in the warm air and barfs overboard if there is somewhere for it to get out. I don't know what year your rig is but later year machines will throw a code for a leaky fuel vent system.

I know a fellow who special ordered a E450 chassis outfitted with an aftermarket 4x4 package, then having a Phoenix Cruiser 2350 built on it. Don Keller of www.eastacresrv.com was the dealer who is handling it.
Where I work we have a Quigley 4x4 equipped E350 purchased new. Same setup as under the Chinook Baja.
